Dr. Bolakis holds an MSc in Physics (Sensors Concentration) from the Naval Postgraduate School (USA) and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens. His expertise focuses on defence and dual-use sensor technologies, including electro-optical and radar systems. He is the author of the textbook “Electro-Optical Systems: An Introduction” and teaches courses in telecommunications and sensor technologies.
His research activities center on sensor design, integration, and performance optimisation, particularly in the infrared spectrum and multi-modal sensing, advancing methodologies for next-generation detection and situational awareness systems. As a Subject Matter Expert, he has coordinated and contributed to multiple European Defence Fund (EDF) and Horizon Europe projects, serving also as an EDF evaluator and EUDIS business coach, mentoring innovation and technological excellence in the European defence sector.
